Yesterday (Friday) at my sunset, I gave a few calls on 1832, but no luck.
After fiddling around with the rig for several minutes, I gave a final call
before QRT and got a RST589 reply from W8JI at 1019Z.
Tom's signal was very strong, but with heavy, rapid fading, of up to 4 'S'
points. The signal quality and slightly noisy band reminded me of working
2m tropospheric propagation when I was a teenager.
After that, next one in the log was Bob W3GH, just running 100W. The next
30 minutes were a flurry of nice signals, mainly from PA, OH, GA, KY and SC,
until I had to QRT just after 1100Z. For those looking for YB, YB0ARA/9 was
active on the band, along with plenty of VKs.
Later, when I checked the band around 1215 - 1230Z (?), good signals were
coming from CO at their sunrise and Doug W0AH was a very nice R5 S8 signal
heard on SSB.
For those North American stations looking for Zone 29, I will try and be on
the band from my sunset (1015Z) as long as I can on Saturday and Sunday
mornings. I just hope the conditions hold!

Steve, VK6VZ
