A Response to a possible reported QSO-

On 9 Feb 1999, at 13:32Z on 80 meter CW, I heard VK9XX state that they were
QSY'ing to 160 meters....at 13:33Z, I heard them on 1.826.4 just above the
noise, it was Q5 copy however and they said up 3......

So I called until 13:37Z when I last heard them call CQ.....I didn't notice
any QSB but wondered if they stop transmitting or QSY'd.....I heard them fb
on my 800 foot JA Bevg it's about 1-2 s units better than the VK/ZL 300 foot
beverage-

I thought I'd drop a note to the reflector as N5IA stated here that he thought
he heard VK9XX in QSO with me on this date......I may have doubled on their
report or maybe he heard me calling them.......I was shocked that no one else
QSY'd from 80 to 160 meters....they were as plain as day but it was short
lived and a bummer that they probably didn't hear me, I had em all alone-
can't help but wonder the "what ifs" if they were operating simplex-

Running an inverted L here up 55 feet with the horizontal portion leaning
towards EU........antenna has about thirty 34 foot radials and thirty long
radials ranging from 135-200 feet. (W0YG motivated to put all these radials
on after calling my original Inv L with 7 radials a tuned dummy load- hihi)
500 watts with an Ameritron amp and IC-756- 800 ft Bevg to JA...500 footers to
EU and SA and 300 footer towards VK/ZL........

So far, from Wyoming, I've heard VK9XX a lot more than VK9YY on the low bands
(40,80,160) while the condx here have been good to JA/VK/KH6 on 160 meters
just about every night since VK9XX/YY started, most activity around 11:00Z to
14:00Z from these areas- .....VK6HD has been a regular at our sunrise around
13Z and many JA's on 160 were worked this past week-

On 15 Feb, 1999- Heard VK9YY working W6's and W7's at 16:00Z on 40
meters.....that was amazing as it was 3 hours past our sunrise and the sun was
shining- Got up at 2 a.m. only to miss them entirely on the low bands until
but then work them ssb on 15 meters this evening- thx guys for #274- feels
gud!
