I suspect that high angle prevailed during the CQ WW contest.  My phased
verticals, which normally have good directivity on DX signals, didn't
have much F/B during the contest.  At the time, I thought to myself that
high angle must be the "problem".  Perhaps the high level of solar
activity over the weekend was why.
