Interesting info on the lower mounted Yagi on a 160M shunt fed tower!
I am in the same situation with a 110' shunt fed Rohn 45 tower with a full
sized 40M rotary dipole at 35' and a large 14el 13-32mhz 60' boom log
periodic at 65'. Lots of mid loading! These antennas are at optimum heights
for their jobs. This shunt fed tower also has a parasitic reflector and
director for 160M.
QUESTION: Would I be better off just running a vertical wire (or cage)
insulated from the tower from 110' high down to the ground as a driven
element? Since it would be hung maybe 2' from this tower, perhaps it
would couple into the tower so much it would be just shock excite feeding
the tower - a waste of time? (Though, the tower would be non-resonant on
160M)
Or, would hanging it 10'-15' away from the tower make any difference?
Otherwise, I am tempted to take the two horizontal antennas and move them to
other towers and make the 160M shunt fed tower clean of mid loading.
Thanks.
