I currently have a full size 1/4 wave 80 meter vertical
made out of aluminum tubing. 2.25" at the bottom, tapers
to 3/4" at the top.

I want to use this antenna on 160 meters and want to avoid
using a matching network at the base of the antenna.

So, I plan to use the 80 meter 67' vertical section
as part of an inverted "L" antenna. My plan is to
place a vacuum relay with control wire at the top of
the antenna and switch in another 70' of horizontal wire
thus making an inverted "L". If I want to use the
antenna on 80, I will just de-energize the vacuum relay.

I plan on running the control wire up through the center of
the vertical and it will peek out at the very top of the
tubing and connect to the operating coil of the vacuum
relay. In addition, I will be using decoupling methods to
inhibit RF from coming down the control wire into the shack.

This seems to be a very easy way of using this vertical on
2 bands. Does anyone see any problem with this?
