If you ignore the power versus distance problem for a moment, one of the
harder things to imagine with really long delayed echoes is how the CW
signal stays coherent. With delays that long - it would take a very very
very uniform transmission media to keep the signal together. No multi-path
would be allowed at all.
It would seem more likely that the signal would be spread out so much
that it would be totally undetectable - or at the very best - not
something that would havd dits or dahs.
This sounds too much like the freak European openings experienced by a
Southern California DXer back in the 70's - which occurred at high noon.
Band still mostly dead last night - although W1AW was much better than
the previous night.
