There is no magic receiving antenna either in an off-the-shelf configuration
or one that is home brewed.

Every design has its compromises, limitations or deficiencies.

I'm lucky, I have plenty of land to install Beverages. I have also tried a
W1FB RG59 loop, a close spaced loop, Palomar ferrite loop, EWE's, pennants,
single wire Beverages and now the KD9SV WD1A dual direction Beverage
antenna.

My plan is to reinstall my dual direction Beverages (NE-SW, NW-SE) that came
down in last year's ice storm. I will also remote a K9AY. That will give me
several choices to choose from. That's something Tim Duffy, K3LR, suggested.
Have as many receiving options as possible.

Good luck this season.
