Subject: TX3A the cheap way
Hi Topbanders
Just to give hope to those new to 160m... after several frustrating mornings
pounding the F1 key, I finally busted the pileup to work TX3A on Monday at
1130Z (6:30AM) on 160m using my old (1989) Kenwood TS-140S and 100W into a
top-loaded vertical at 50ft high apex (actually a 80m doublet with ladder line
shorted at the in-shack tuner). I use 6 - 133ft radials attached to the ground
rod at the antenna feed through panel, but don't think they're necessary as I
worked Fiji earlier before I laid them down for the winter. It helps to be on a
hill with Lake Huron to the west.
Just to let you know that you don't always need an amp, a K3 and
beverages.....but it would be nice!
Thanks to the TX3A team for a great low band Dxpedition.
73, Jeff VE3FRX
