I have a similar noise-finding arsenal Don. My VHF tool is a Moxon
rectangle which has a very deep narrow null. I mounted it to a short
section of broom handle so I can hold it overhead and turn the null, as I
listen on an HT in AM mode. For further pinpointing within 30 or40 feet of
the utility pole or lines, I use an ultrasonic receiver and handheld dish
reflector.
Powerline noise is a never-ending problem here, along with electric fences,
and a nearby railroad crossing switching/control terminal. There was a time
when I seemed to spend more of my precious "radio time" tracking down noise
instead of operating.
