When I was in Florida I had trouble with rabbits eating my plants. I had some jalapeno peppers that I had left on the plant too long and they turned red. My green jalapenos were real flame throwers and those red ones were orders of magnitude hotter. They put habaneros to shame. They were totally uneatable. I thought I would make some sauce out of them and spray it on the things I didn't want the rabbits to eat. A couple of mornings later I went out to get the peppers and noticed there were 3 or 4 that were half eaten. So much for that idea. The only solution I have for wires is to bury them in conduit. I even had problems with direct burial coax after it was first buried. Coyotes would see that the ground had been disturbed and dig up the cables and chew them. Current problem is foxes. They love duct seal. Jerry, K4SAV On 11/13/2015 1:07 PM, K8MFO--- via Topband wrote: Those of us who live in the middle of a forest are used to rodents chewing automotive wiring. Much of the insulation these days is "soybean based", which appeals to the palates of many critters. Apparently the wiring on Honda vehicles is particularly delicious, because the company offers " rodent proof tape", Honda part number 4019-2317. The tape is laced with CAPSAICIN, a primary ingredient in hot sauce, There are a number of Honda dealers who offer this product on eBay. The following URL provides one example:http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-GENUINE-HONDA-ACURA-RODENT-RAT-MICE-MOUSE-PROOF-ELECTRICAL-TAPE-4019-2317-/291601439155?hash=item43e4ccd9b3:g:MKUAAOSwl9BWMR zB&vxp=mtrThe product is a bit PRICEY at $30 for a 20 meter (65 foot) roll, but itdoes seem to work. I've not had a problem with hungry rodents since having my mechanic use a couple of rolls on my exposed vehicle wiring. No reason it wouldn't work on coax, rotor cable, or control lines.73 Don K8MFO ... in the woods of Amish Ohio_________________ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband _________________ Topband Reflector Archives - http://www.contesting.com/_topband |
