The story is told in these parts (PVRC-land) of a typical AB-105
acquisition. The word went out that a government installation in
Virginia had AB-105 to get rid of. But...access to the site could not be
gained until 9 AM Saturday and everyone must be off the site by 5 PM.
Anything not taken by then was going to the metal scapper.

A group of PVRCers, led by W3GRF (a career Air Force antenna man who
lived a few miles from Andrews AFB on an 18 acre antenna farm) showed up
with pickup trucks. There was a very large pile of AB-105. They worked
feverishly all day loading trucks and hauling off site. At the end of
the day the pile they were working on was not noticeably smaller than
when they started.

Unfortunately, no one realized how prized and rare AB-105 would later
become. They should have rented mechanical equipment and flat bed trucks
to haul ALL of the tower to some nearby site for dealing with later. Oh
well. They did get some thousands of feet off the site that day and much
of the supply that continues to circulate came from that day.
