I agree with all the others recommending a crane/cherry picker. I had
ocassion to perform this very task for a friend of mine who shall
remain nameless (we all were ignorant back when we put these up; I
had one, too).
I was able to put a sling far enough up the mast to leave the cg
below it, and then the crane lifted it out, nice as you please. My
heartiest recommendation: DO NOT SAW IT OFF while up on the tower.
There are way too many forces that will come in to play at a time
when you can do nothing about them except watch. For reference, rent
the movie Sometimes A Great Notion (also called Never Give An Inch).
It's about lumbering, and has a scene of a lumberjack topping off a
tree for use as a gin pole. As one of the Mercury astronauts said,
"man, what a ride!"
