Lots of good ideas but the one I like the best is to use a secondary light
weight mast mounted in parallel with the primary mast. I mount my 2 meter
vertical on top of the secondary mast and clamp the secondary mast to the
primary mast near the bottom, where I can easly reach it, without climbing up
the primary mast. My home made clamps separate the two masts enough to allow
 clearance for my 204BA and 15 meter monobander mast brackets.  This makes it
easy to take the 2 meter antenna up and down.
