Rich Measures, in his series of articles on the SB-220,  mentions the 
SWR problem. He suggested adding some capacitance to cure it on 10 
meters.

You don't elaborate on the "huge difference". A few feet of coax 
"can" make a difference in apparent SWR, if you are uncomfortable, 
open the AMP, check the coax and solder joints, clean the relay 
contacts and check it again.
