Interesting problem occured Saturday night while testing the new and
improved 4-square. Dana (XYL) noticed some arcing on the tower that is
in the center of the square. It turns out that two adjacent vertical
(SW&SE) radials that go back through the center tower were touching. The
wires are 14g insulated. When transmitting there was quite an arc.

My question... Can someone explain why there would be so much potential
between these two radials? I've got 12 radials per vertical. The arcing
occured when the system was aimed NE. I didn't think to check if it went
away in any of the other directions.

I moved the radials to keep them a rung away from each other. No
problem.

Thanks experts!
