And if you've got a tree with a single primary trunk (fir, cedar,
hemlock, etc.), you can top it and install an HF beam. I've installed over a
dozen small tribanders and even 402CD's in trees and they work great! With no
tower or guywires, the antennas are floating in space electrically. They work
so well you'll scare yourself.
Tree installations are high maintenance - you've got to get up there
every couple of years and trim the new growth away. And it's WOOD so it ain't
like a steel tower. It will eventually start to rot unless it has been
trimmed carefully to keep the sap coming up the trunk.
The trick on getting the antennas up to the top is to use the tram
system that's been discussed before.
