Thirty feet's better than nothing.
Yes, it tapers to a point at the top. When I top a tree to install a
yagi system, I like to get it six inches or so in diameter. Bigger is fine
but the part you cut off will be bigger and heavier. Find the spot where it's
the right size and saw away.
