Stan caused me to go outside and take a look at my gin pole. The aluminum tube
is galled and gashed vertically from many raisings and lowerings. It is also
deformed in spots from mishandling. Even with some silicone spray, the clamp
mechanism moves up and down abruptly. If mine is typical, I'd use another
method for lowering sections.

I've built 4 contest stations and been involved in erecting at least 20
towers. Somehow we have managed to avoid serious injuries. In retrospect we
(I) have taken some foolish chances in the spirit of expediency. I don't
recommend ever working alone, however.
