I have recently asked the members of the towertalk mail reflector to
contact me if they had received multiple mail messages if they were not
an AOL customer. Since the question was asked, I've only received mail
from one person who provided me with copies of the multiple messages.
There seems to be common denominator with all of the people complaining
about multiple messages...
1. They are AOL customers.
2. They are customers of a large ISP with multiple mail servers that
dont appear to be working correctly. JUNO.COM is my only example.
3. They are folks on the other side of the world where the internet
connection to me may be difficult.
#1 & #2 are the most common. In both cases, the ISP is running multiple
mail servers. The message is received by one mail server and then the
other after a period of time. I have no idea why this occurs, I just
have proof of it happening. There are many people on these lists getting
mail fine with other large ISPs running multiple mail servers, so I have
to assume it is a problem with AOL and JUNO.
Short of getting another ISP, I dont know what to tell you to prevent it
from happening in the future.
