Subject: | [TowerTalk] Drive rod on old HyGain HDR-300 |

Prior to the use of stainless on the drive shaft coming out of the HDR-300 rotor, the old model would rust the mast attachment flanges to the drive shaft. Removal is a bear. We used heat and more heat, coupled with a gear puller for pressure. Flange moved with a loud pop with each heating, then gear puller was tightened and more heat. Finally gave way. Would hate to see someone do that up on a tower. And, the rotor will not come out of the mounting plate with the flange fastened to the drive shaft. Mucho woe at 190 feet up! I was on ground in workshop! PS-- anyone want to sell me a HDR-300 rotor only, have control head? de K4VUD -- FAQ on WWW: http://www.contesting.com/towertalkfaq.html Submissions: towertalk@contesting.com Administrative requests: towertalk-REQUEST@contesting.com Problems: owner-towertalk@contesting.com Search: http://www.contesting.com/km9p/search |
