You missed the crucial meaning of the word "propagated" in the first
answer.  The quad can't tell the difference between, say, noise from
African thunderstorms and the emanations from 9U5CW.  However, given that
the quad has no exposed end points (and other geometrical considerations),
it may be less sensitive to local noise E-fields.

Regarding gain, the vertical pattern may be slightly different for low
quads and low yagis over typical grounds.  It does not take a great deal
of difference in lobe shape to make a large difference in low-angle
radiation strength.
