What lateral forces at the base of the tower?
Don't the guy wires balance all the lateral
forces at their attachment points? I always
thought so. And, to my mind, the purpose
of a base is to prevent sinking in the ground
or rising when the ground freezes.
Have you ever seen the W1EVT towers?
Clem has 19 (?) Rohn 25 towers standing 140 ft above
cinderblock bases used to establish each base at the same
elevation. NO CONCRETE. Still there after many decades.
