I'm in the process of winding an inductor (loading coil) for a
vertical antenna and came up with a question. The form I have
built is a cross that will have a diameter (if I wind the coil
circular) of 4 inches. If I were to wind the coil in a square
fashion, each side would be approx. 2.8 inches. How much longer
(more turns) will I have to make the coil to end up with the
same inductance if I make it square as opposed to round? I
would use the same turn spacing. Is there any reason not to
wind a square coil?
Thanks,
