We've been around this topic before, but ... in some circumstances, it
appears that such treatment can actually precipitate failure, if the
corrosion mechanism is galvanic, as between a copper ground rod and the
galvanized anchor. This reputedly can happen if a pinhole develops in the
asphalt paint and focuses the galvanic corrosion in a single small area of
the anchor rod.
Jut to be on the safe side, I replaced all my guy wire ground rods with
galvanized ones, so there's no potential difference with the anchor rods.
