I have recently constructed a G.P. antenna similar to the one in an article by
KE7BT
and K5IU in the Summer 1998 issue of Communications Quarterly.

I would like to hear your experiences and successes in constructing a lightning
arrester across the base insulator on Rohn 25 tower. KE7BT apparently used
a commercially made corona ball device, of which I would like to hear of any
sources. Details of any home-brew solutions would be appreciated.

The description of my antenna is as follows:

Height: 192.5 feet
18 sections of Rohn 25, plus top section, 3 foot mast, and corona ball.
The base insulators were of my design; and the installed length is a 4 inch
gap between tower sections; which are mounted at the 60 foot level.
The three 154 foot radials are actually the EMS guy wire at the 60 foot
level, which are floating and insulated from the tower. The tower from ground to

the 60 foot level is properly grounded with a Polyphaser ground rod assembly
on each of the three legs.

Any solutions or experiences; especially successful designs appreciated!
