I believe that you can spot true Amphenols by the presence of a snap ring
inside one end. Remove it and the insulators and center conductor fall
out. The ones I have in the junk box have what appear to be nickel-plated
shells, clear insulators, and silver-plated center conductors, which should
be compatible with genuine Amphenol PL-259s.... They also say Amphenol
83-1J on the shell. I threw all the non-Amphenol away... The only
feedline failures I've had have been due to water infiltration at the
PL-259/barrel interface.
