Hi all;
The answer is insurance. The insurance companies put pressure on
manufacturers. Ed, the tower erectors have their own engineers. They do not
look at the manufacturers specs. They have better engineers.
Story: I have a good working relationship with some real good commercial
tower people that are based near my QTH.
They install towers up to about 1200'. Their top engineer told me the towers
are not the problem. Bases and guying are the problem. He told me ,and I
believe him that the basic strength of any tower is the engineered guys and
their anchor points.
They do not even see the tower manufacturers specs. Think about it. Who will
not be paid if the installation fails.
