Tom,

I believe you thinking of an article by Allen B. Harbach, WA4DRU,
entitled
"Broadband 80-Meter Antenna."  This was published in December 1980 QST.
This article is also included in "ARRL's Wire Antenna Classics" starting
on
p. 1-15.

I think you'd find it interesting reading.
