In the Boston area, a good source for new tubing is Larchmont Engineering,
Lexington, MA. Recently KR1G and myself picked enough to build a very nice
80 M 4 Square Vertical System. Each element used 3 pieces of 3 inch OD
tubing 20 ft. long and we spliced them with 2-1/2 inch EMT (steel) - the OD
of the EMT is a perfect fit for the ID of the 3 inch irrigation tubing.
Build a tilt mechanism for the base, with a 40 ft. Rohn 25 tower in the
center of the array with pulley's at the top, to lift each element into
place. Worked perfectly during installation, works extremely well from an
RF point of view. Each element uses two levels of rope guying (25 and 50
ft. level) 4 way guying system to allow for more stability during raising
or lowering.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Irrigation pipe sources.
With the introduction of center pivot irrigation systems, farmers
are dumping irrigation pipe on the salvage market like crazy. Any
where irrigated farms making these changes you can
usually buy the used pipe for about $1 per foot from scrap dealers.
There are several scrap places locally that have thousands of
feet on their yards ranging in size from 2-8 inches. I think that the
4" and 6" sizes are the ones found most often. Lengths run from
10 to 40 feet.
