Hi Bruce,
I did not see any answer to this so let me venture a guess. It seems to me that
the advice you got regarding the crimp on terminals was not to use those
specific terminals on aluminum wire. I would not read that to mean "you can
NEVER use any crimp on terminals on any aluminum wire". Some crimp on
connectors may be made specifically for use with aluminum wire.
I suspect they are warning you about possible failure of those crimp on
terminals due to corrosion between aluminum wire and the terminal material, but
I don't know for sure. Aluminum in general, is a metal that corrodes quite
easily.
All of the Belden control wire I have seen is tinned copper, stranded. Belden
is a huge wire company, however, and they make dozens of wires and cables I have
never seen . . . maybe even some from aluminum. Your Belden cable is probably
stranded tinned copper but you better check it to be sure.
I personally do not like crimped connections of any kind. I have seen hundreds
of intermittant crimped connections in my technician trouble-shooting days.
