this is how W3AU has his long CATV hardline runs here in FL

he has a piece of aluminum tubing which he has split both ends on and he
slides it over one side to start....the ID of the tubing is very close to
the OD of the hardline....

then he solders a short length small diameter copper/brass (hobby/plumbing?)
tube over the center conductor...

after soldering the small tubing to both sides of the center conductor
splice he packs pieces of the dielectric around it and then slides the
aluminum tube over the splice....

hose clamps tighten the split tube and voila....I am sure it is a small
impedance bump due to the diameters changing slightly but at HF hopefully
this is acceptable!  (JI?)
