whenever the wind blew, which is all the time and it was worse in light
winds. I did not install rope in the elements. I have many antennas that
don't rattle and don't have ropes. Is it the swaged tubing that causes this
and is there a cure? Does the rope really eliminate it?

I had several 204BA's in the mid 70s thru mid 80s. I can recall where one of
them did, indeed, "rattle" ever slightly. The rope I had in the elements
didnt decrease the rattle. When I repalced one (structural damage during 70
mph storm with icing) I noticed that the swedging on several of the outer
elements of the older 204BA was of slightly larger diameter than the newer
one I had, maybe causing the tips to rattle. The newer one never rattled.
Perhaps a mfg glitch or change, I dont know.
