You are absolutely right. If it is a guyed tower, most of the stress at the
base will be a compression force. Very little if any lateral forces on the
concrete as these are all taken up by the guys. Does anyone doubt me? In the
extreme sense are pinned bases like mine. The tower is not even fixed at the
base. It just sits on the concrete. It's very stable and doesn't move. The
guy wires not only prevent lateral forces on the concrete, the also provide
compression forces and pull the tower downward.
