My understanding from a metal cable company is that if you use a thimble on
a guy cable you lose 20% of the strength of the cable at that point. If you
weave the end of the cable you lose 5% of the cable strength. Is this true?
Also, what strength do you lose when using a guy-grip?
Tnx

I would never use a knot in this application. Phillystran is to be
terminated with grips designed specifically for Phillystran.

But why not ask them yourself?
http://www.phillystran.com (almost worthless)
info@phillystran.com

For grips, go to http://www.preformed.com
and look up "Phillystran" in their search tool

http://www.preformed.com/cgi-bin/displayContent.pl?type=file&id=94

Gee, even PLP refers to it as Phillystrand on this search results
page...there is no "D" at the end; they should know better!

And yes, you need turnbuckles - they are mandatory to tighten the
cables to proper tension - especially given that they stretch/relax
over time.
