Hello, Doug--
I think you missed the point of the "bleeding hearts." Their attitude seemed
to be that it is much more productive to say, "Hey, fellow--this is of really
poor design and could cause a real world of hurt. I'll be glad to help you if
you want," rather than to say, "Hey you dumb s***! That's the stupidest thing
I've ever seen!!"
Doug, which would you rather hear when you do someting that's not up to snuff?
(Like your example of making a poor solder connection, which you characterized
as "trivial." I once did a solder repair to a comms system on a Cessna 210
that--because of a poor design by Cessna--could have caused a serious problem
if it had failed while the plane was in flight. Despite the fact that I was as
careful and professional as possible, I felt nervous about that repair for a
long time.)
Beating up on people almost never works nearly as well as treating them as if
they are doing the best they can at the time; after all, they are. Aren't
you? Even when *you* do "dumb things?"
Be gentle.
