Such schemes have been around for centuries (ever since Ben Franklin
invented the lightning rod). I seem to recall some papers from the folks at
Erico in Australia describing the effectiveness (or not) with reasonably
well controlled experimental setups, but I can't recall the overall summary.
Why not ask the mfr for some data (other than anecdotal) to back up their
claims?
