Some paint strppers contain methylene chloride (Dichloromethane) which is a
carcinogen. It is easily absorbed through the skin and by inhalation. It is
not miscible with water, has a high
vapor pressure, and is not flammable. If you try it, do it *out-of-doors and
keep it off your hands*. Do not use it in any plastic (teflon is the only
exception) or rubber-based
containers; use glass or metal. Rubber gloves are no guarantee of safety
either. Before retiring from a research lab, I had to have specific training
and approval to use this (and many
other) material(s); it did not matter what your job/position was.
One source of info is: http://msds.ehs.cornell.edu/msdsresults.asp

and was found at: http://msds.ehs.cornell.edu/msdssrch.asp
or

which was found at: http://hazard.com/msds/index.php
plus more (free) resources can be found at: http://www.ilpi.com/msds/#General
As to whether it will work is another question - it won't work on all
materials. If you try, you will likely have to let it soak in the solution/goo
for some time (it usually causes
affected materials to swell where they can then be wiped or scraped off with a
paper towel).
Good luck and be careful.
