I used welded "fence rail".which is very strong. It is of course far
heavier than aluminum and you have to make sure the stuff is welded, not
just rolled and galvanized. I used a 16 foot piece which gave me plenty of
space between the clamps and still put the top well above the next section.
That made it still heavier, but even at my age I was easily able to handle
it and move the entire assembly up and down the tower.
I used it to assemble the 97 foot Rohn 45G and disassemble to old 90 foot
American Steel tower.

If you think the shipping is steep wait till you find a piece of seamless
aluminum tubing to use that has heavy enough walls to hold the weight. Of
course I don't know how much weight you are lifting, but I raised some loads
of near 200#.
