Hi Jim. I'd make the switch to metal. I did a tram gig one time with rope,
then changed to wire rope and the difference was night and day. Don's
recommendation of 1/4" or 5/16" (he ought to know) is what I'd also
recommend, although I have always used 1/4" for everything I've done and
never had any problems - the biggest tram was a KLM 4-40 "heavy duty"
edition - the one with the quarter-inch thick boom. It weighed a lot. Went
up fine. The W6UE guys have since had that antenna down and up that tram a
couple times for maintenance.
At N5OT I use 1/4" EHS for this and just haul it over to a fenceline I don't
mow for storage, laid out flat.
