I agree. The less you have to do with them, the better. In my county
(Pasco, FL) the tax appraiser comes out once in a few years to check the
property
for improvements. In their looking around they discovered six towers, a 12 by
20 shed and a fence, all built without permits. The only thing they appraised
was the shed...and only for a couple of hundred bucks. I suppose it doesn't
say much about my carpentry. My guess is the officials look at the tower as a
'temporary improvement,' or else don't have a clue what to value it at. After
all, even most building departments don't have a clue about towers. Houses
and commercial buildings yes, towers no.
In this county, if you want to challenge the appraisal you have to submit a
nonrefundable deposit of something like $250...not something you want to do
capriciously.
