Gordon,

Thank you very much for the offer. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position
to take you up on it at this time. Between bringing in exterminators,
kitchen remodelers, and furniture repairers (oh the joy of moving into an
old house) I don't think my wife will be up to a trip north. A crank up,
tilt over tower would have been wonderful. I fear the tower of any type
will probably have to wait until next year when the chaos settles down.

Until time and circumstances permit, I'm probably going to sling a short
dipole or G5RV Jr from the end of the house over to a big tree. 55' at
25' in the air should at least get me back on the air. Frustratingly,
the trees are not well positioned to take advantage of the full 80' x
135' the lot has to offer.

Thanks to everyone who has offered advice or sent pictures and links.
When spring comes around I may still convince the wife to let me put a a
Universal Towers 12-30. With only an 18" base (in a 3'x3' concrete
block) and clearing a 20' roof ridge it shouldn't look too monstrous from
the front or back of the house.

Delbert,

I?ve been reading this thread with great interest and honestly, more than
a few chuckles. So as I looked out my new French Doors and across my
deck, I realized that it was time to help.

This is your lucky day!

I have a two section, steel crankup tower with tilt base for you for
FREE!

It is in good condition and it is yours.

But there?s more! You can go through my TA33 element and boom collection
and pick out whatever you can use!

Now just come to Bergenfield, NJ and pick it up!

We?re ten minutes from the New Jersey Turnpike.

My wife Nancy, N2FWI and I will provide lunch and/or dinner for you and
your wife.

She can look at our TINY 40X100 lot with TWO TOWERS on it!

One at 45 ft + 22 ft of masting has a 30+ft 6M yagi, 2 17 element 2M
yagis and an omni vertical.

The other is 40 ft and has whatever I'm playing with on it.

There are seven dishes between 3 and 8 feet on the ground waiting for
something fun to do.

I haven't finished it yet, but there is also a 3.5 inch, 13 ft mast
through my roof which I will soon be able to rotate with whatever I put
on it!

Our hospitality and generosity ? and the site visit, will help to adjust
your wife?s expectations down to something more modest as you, as an HF
only operator have proposed!

73,

Gordon Beattie

Well, after about four years of having a license I'm finally moved out of
my townhouse and into a detached home with a 1/4 acre lot and no HOA to
look over my shoulder. Everthing finally seems right for putting up a
small tower and beam (as opposed to my old attic loop) to make DX
contacts a bit easier. Only one thing stands in my way now, the wife.

What might make my effort a little easier is if I can show my wife that
the tower and beam won't dominate the entire back garden and surrounding
neighborhood. If anyone has a photo of a 30' free standing tower next
to a house with a small, 3-element beam on top I might have a chance of
reaching a compromise. I'm thinking of putting in a Universal Towers
"12-30" or "21-30" with some brand (possiblly Hy-Gain) of three element
beam. Still, any photo of a 30' tower will probably make (or break) my
case.

Any chance that someone has this configuration and can share a photo?

Thanks.
