Hi:
I have some sections of tower (prob. heavy duty television tower) I want to use
for small antennas (prob. a small yagi, and a vertical). These are much in use
in this location by hams, and by people with television antennas (some stacks
of two). Usually the tower is of lighter construction (not as many cross
pieces). You can see the bottom section of tower and the base for it, in the
attached photographs.

I have dug a hole, near the side of the house, where their was an old
television antenna tower. I can access the foundation of the house for about
two feet down, and the hole is about 3 feet square by 6 feet deep, with a
little slack. I have a cement mixer, some cement, crushed stone and sand, rebar
and mesh. So, I was thinking of building a cage by using steel wire to tie the
mesh and rebar. I can't really mix up perfect high psi concrete; but I can
bracked the section to the foundation at the bottom, and at the roof level, and
add sections on top of this base. I can also guy it at least to the second
section. (they are 10 foot sections).

If this sounds good, the problem I have is the base plate (see photo) which is
only ment to have force downwards on it (it will not prevent something from
lifting the tower off of it).
This and, I am wondering how to protect the part of the base and bottom tower
section that is buried. (Normally, people around here just bury the whole
thing. I have dug up sections that have been in place for 40 years without too
much damage on them).

Does the above seem reasonable, for a small installation?

You can reply to roy.thistle@utoronto.ca, if you like.

Thanks.
