"I think" which means I really don't know, that were the element on the
under side only the screws would be supporting it rather than the boom and
boom to element clamp. OTOH (I've ssen these) given an extreded aluminum
clamp that fits over the boom and offeres complete support for the element
underneath would do just what you propose. Still these things cost several
times what the regular flat plates and moulded mounts cost.
However a thought for an element mount would be a typical flap plate and
then two pieces of stock cut out much like the boom to mast clamps. Said
clamp would be held in place by two bolts, or a u-bolt. Yes they'd be more
expensive than the flat plate and u-bolt, but not terribly so. When you get
to the really big, heavy elements the atachments get a bit more complicated.
Just some thoughts.
