Mark:
At my station I have essentially this scheme. I have one run of coax out
to the tower. At the tower base I have an antenna switch that I remotely
control from within the shack. The five HF antennas atop the tower and around
the back yard are connected into this switch. None of these antennas is
connected when the switch is powered down.
My only advice would be to make sure that whatever relay you select for
this purpose that it is capable of operating at the power levels you expect. I
would urge you not to use ordinary open relays for V/UHF work but purchase
one(s) that are intended for those higher freqs.

Subject: Re: [TowerTalk] lighting protection setup
Is it worth placing coaxial relays outside the shack and having the relays
set up so that when these relays are not energised the antennas are
disconnected from the shack and grounded. Powering up the relays would
connect the antennas into the shack and remove the grounding. This would
allow for an easy automatic disconnect and grounding of antennas when not
operating.
