I bought the base from MFJ and paid the freight. It was worth it. The base
'ears' have to be JUST right or you will not get the bolts through those
holes. Be sure to find the drawings on the concrete base, rebar, etc. Big
hole here....5 x 5 x 9- a bit larger than required but I am along the water
in a hurricane zone so a little overkill helps me sleep better you might
say. -'73 and good luck. - Mike

I'm open to any suggestions...
Note that Hy-Gain/MFJ still sells the rebar base for the HG70HD. The cost is
$350.00 and $150.00 for shipping. I bought one because I was thinking about
the liability aspect if the tower were to ever fall and cause damage or
injury...how would it look if the homemade base failed? I can say that
during Ike, (I live about 40 miles west of where the eye of the storm
tracked) that my wife said my tower "didn't move an inch!" and my 4
el-SteppIR didn't suffer any damage. We had 70-80 MPH winds with 90 MPH
gusts. I was conveniently out of town.

I wouldn't mind having one myself but I think that chances of finding one
are slim. BUT...BLAKE, N4GI had an idea of adapting another brand for use on
this tower. Perhaps he can tell us, and remind me, of what he used to lower
my tower when he took it down a couple of years ago. It apparently worked
well enough for him, so that's good enough for me. - Mike

Getting to old for ladders. Looking for a HyGain Raising/Lowering Fixture
that was sold for use with the HG-70HD crankup tower (and probably other
models). Sold as a HG-GP Gin Pole. Current HyGain (now MFJ) has nothing of
the old tower stuff.
