Dave,

Tim's talking about soldering to a coax that's "special". For regular ol'
coax, thru-the-holes soldering is still "tried and true."

I've been a ham for 23 years, and never quite figured out connectors til
reading through your page.

Thanks so much, it's the best step by step I think I've ever seen on putting
those things on.

Hello James!

I have soldered lots of PL259s on LMR400 direct bury coax using this method:

http://www.k3lr.com/engineering/pl259/

Check it out. It should work well for you too.

Howdy -- Anyone have any tips or good instructions for
installing PL-259s and / or Times Microwave coax connectors
on LMR 400 DB - solid core, direct burial coax cable?

Also, what to do with the icky pick sticky goo that is on the
braid? My Friday Lunch Bunch guys recommended dissolving
it with rubbing or isopropyl alcohol, but NOT with a solvent like
naphtha or acetone as that can damage the jacket and / or center
dielectric insulator.

I don't mind reading if you have a web page or other source you
can point me to. But this is not like your regular RG-8x.

THANKS -- Hoping to get my new antenna on the air this weekend.
