Normally designing an antenna is a compromise between the SWR curve and the 
F/B and gain is basically a function of boom length.  Since the SteppIR 
adjusts at various frequency increments,  I would guess that it always close 
to the optimum setting for gain, F/B and SWR.

I think I recall the Steppir people telling us that the max fwd gain vs 
lowest
vswr may (probably?} occur at different element lengths.

Perhaps someone (Steppir?) can tell us how much variance in gain there is 
when
changing
the factory settings to user determined vswr settings.
