You can also try holding down the "Alt" key while
typing "253" or "0178" on the numeric pad.  I'll try it
here and see if it survives the reflector:

I'm seeing a superscript 2 in my plain text mailer window
running Courier font.

For superscript 3, use Alt 0179.

Subscript zero is Unicode 2080 hex, but there is no way to
finagle that into a plain text system, AFAIK
