That's another option but a series fed vertical is really easy
to tune and load.
I use the exact base insulator discussed in this thread for 160
meters, a 142 foot Rohn 25 phillystran guyed tower sitting on
a tilt-over plate with a Teflon sheet between the base and tilt
plate. Bolts have Teflon washers as discussed.
It was up for 15 years and taken down for the move from the Arctic
to Kenai, Alaska where it is back up exactly as before. I don't
mess with things that work. The Teflon sheet looked as good as
the day it was installed. No compression or cold flow, 1.5kw and
never a problem. I do keep the base covered with plastic to keep
our deep snow off the base.
I have discussed this on Tower-talk some years ago and took pictures
for a few that showed interest. There are some after market shops
that visit the ham shows that build accessories for Rohn towers. I
have never been able to get any of the owners interested in building
and selling an insulated base for Rohn 25 towers used as verticals
even though some do build tilt-over base plates.
The Rohn base tilt is very easy to use. Just remove the top plate
that matches the tower legs from the bottom plate that is bolted
to the concrete pier, rotate it and then drill and bolt in back with
Teflon in-between.
