The IEC rating for N connectors is 1KV working voltage and 2.5KV proof
voltage at sea level, 40-65Hz.

10KW into 50 Ohms results in less then 1KV, so that is OK with pulsed
applications.

The Amphenol catalog provides a 10kW peak power rating for N connectors.

I assume that's intended for radar applications, for which things like
breakdown or multipaction are issues, more than ohmic heating, which is
more a average power limit.

Seems like every manufacturer has different ratings. I suppose that
could be because of "spec conservatism" or lack thereof (for instance,
you might be selling into a market that requires a specific "derating"
factor from the mfr spec). Or it might be "design to" vs "tested to"..
Or, they might have different internal construction, while still
maintaining the interface dimensions as required.

There are, for instance, several different forms of the shield connector
in the plug side. Some with single annular conductor, others with slits
or slots.

And, then, there are N connectors (e.g.the old Maury Blue Dot) which are
designed for better repeatability and/or better match.
